Although weather conditions wete nogt favourable, being rather. hok. and with rain threatening, the annual athletic sports niceting of the Ying Wa College was successfully held on the S.C.A.A. ground at Caroline Hall yesterday afternoon.
Mr. R. E. The German Club, he added were very keen to put in. team, but their courts were at present under repair and would not ready. for some time.
The meeting passed a motion to admit the German Club to the League; their matches to be played | on away grounds.
In view of the large number of entries in Divisions B. and C. ( four- teen and twelve, respectively) the question of the formation of a new Division D was raisest, but it was eventually decided that the entries should stand, Clubs to play two
games

decided that the League should start on May 10.
Messrs. As Morse, C. F. Lee, C. P. James, and S. E. Green were appointed an executive committee to handle League details, in con- junction with Messrs. R. E. Lind- sell, M. K. Lo, and

balt from Matheson, which ap- peared to be trekking towards his wicket. It is alleged-since con- tradicted--that he stopped the ball with h hund. On an appeal the batsmann was given out.
The habit has grown up in the Dominion of recent years for the batsman to throw the ball back to the bowler if it stops anywhere near him, especially when the wicketkeeper is standing deep to the just bowlers. On the strict Freading of the laws, such an action remiers the batsman certain to be given out if the appeal is made.

Kule 29 of the laws of cricket, as set down by the Marylebone' Chub, says: Either batsman is out if he touch with his hands or take up the ball, while in play, unless at the request of the opposite sido
Handled the ball."
The incident was certainly most unusual, and may not occur in years of big cricket.
