DEPOSED SULTAN
Death of Turkish Leader
Constantinople. Yesterday. The death has occurred of Ahmed Riza, founder of the Com- mittee of Union and Progress, which fought the regime of Abdul Hamid, the deposed Sultan of Turkey.- Reuter.
Mr. Lloyd George In the minority. Exciting Scones
The Coal BIl caused great ex- citement during the division on, the Liberal amendment. As Mr. Lloyd George and some of his fol- lowers emerged from the Conserva- tive lobby they were loudly and ironically cheered by Labour mem- hers, to the accompaniment of cries of "good old Tory."
The Government was saved by Liberal abstentions, who included the principal anti-Lloyd George Liberala. When it was known that the Government had a major-; ity, the whole Labour Party rose, cheered, waved papers and hand- kerchiefs and derided the Conser- vatives.
"All Hypocrisy"
After the division Mr.. A. J. Cook, speaking officially on behalf of the miners, sald that had Mr. Lloyd George succeeded in defeat- ing the Government it would have meant a complete stoppage of the coalfelds in the country.
The Miners' Federation had nw olearned that the Liberals' pro- fession of sympathy with the min- ers was all hypocrisy. Mr. Lloyd George's action to-night would summon all the forces of the Min- era' Federation and the Labour movement against Liberalism.- Reuter,
