Doleful forecasts were made in some quarters a few years back in regard to the future of crepe rubber as a soling material. It was then stated that crepe rubber had, us it were, "shot Its bolt," and that the future would
see a gradual diminution in the demand for it. Crepe sole rubber has, however. been firmly established, and the estimated trade require ments for this year are placed at between 7,600 and 8,000 tons. This represents about one per cent, of the estimated world production of rubber this year, and as such may not be regarded as of much parti- cular value. Looked at from an other point of view, however, the $20,000,000 consumption of sole crepe assumes 8,000,000 an Altogether different aspect. 4,000,000 Taking 7,500 tons
