There artistes appeared at the Banff Scottish Music Festival held at the Banff Springs Hotel, from August.30 to September 2, sponsored by the Canadian Pacific Railway. Mary Frances Jaracs, soprano, took a leading role in the ballad opera by Dr. Healey Willan woven around the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora Mac- Donald. Stanley Hoban, Winnipeg baritone and Herbert Hewet- son, tenor, were among the assisting artistes.
In addition to the Music Festival there was the Highland Gathering of pipers from most of the Canadian Scottish regiments. who competed for the E. W. Beatty Trophy, the winner of which · represents the outstanding piper of the year in Canada. Further, there were lighland Games staged such as tossing the caber and all the other sports which feature the great ennual meet in Scot- land. The Festival is in short a getting together of the Scottish race from all over Canada and is patronised by visitors from all parts.

Aurry, secretary for the Dominions in the late Baldwin Administration, who arrived i Casada recently on the "Empress of Australin," had as his objective in that country the climbing. the 11,000-foot Mount Arnery, named after him, in the Canadian Rockies.
