A NEW ORIENT LINER
"Orontes" Demonstrates INDO-CHINA
Her Qualities
The "Orontes," a new liner built for the Orient Steam Navigation' Com- pany, landed a party of 250 guests at Southampton on Sept. 15, after a Channel cruise arranged demon- strate the ship's good qualities. The party had embarked on Friday at Southampton, und in our forty-eight- hour acquaintance the "Orontes" had taken us as far as Mount's Bay, Corn- wall, and we had come back in a leigure- ly cruise within sight of long stretches at coast, with a night &t anchor in Plymouth Sound, saya writer in

"The
Man- chester Guardian." As the "Orontes" wound her way out of Southampton be tween sea giants like the "Mauretania" and the "Leviathan" and other older vessels looking a little time-worn, she seemed radiant with the freshness of youth, and all through our trip we had the sparkle of a gay, new home.
The "Orontes" is the fifth 200,000- the last five vessel added within yeurs to the Orient line Fleet, on which the company have been spending about $1,000,000 annually in new construc- tion. Like her sister ships, she was specially designed for the mall service between England and Australia, onl she embodies all the experience gained by them. She is fitted for the car- riage of two classes only. her accom modation being for 500 first-class and 1,100 third-class passengers. The comfort of the third-class passenger has receivel studied attention. "Orontes" is meant to be a powerful inducement to them to travel. First- class passengers rooms have either a window or porthole, a large proportion

All the apartments devoted to the social life of the ship lounge, smoking-ram, cafe, and so on--bave heen fitted up with great taste. The spacious dining-saloon is exceptionally well ventilated, though airiness is n feature of the whole ship.
