The conditions were range (11⁄2 inch bull) targets with .22 bore converted service rifles; 1 sighting ahot and 10 shots tu count:-Bull, 4, Inner 3, Guter 2. This made "the possible" of 40 paints per man. There were two targets per man, five shots a target.
The two best scores were put up by T. Marshall, of Messrs. Butter- field and Swire, and Able Seaman

"Playing the Game"
The Chinese people have far realised influence which athletics can have on phy- sique: but there Bre other influences far more potent and desirable which athletics can exert. Athletics can play a great part in
the development of character and in. moral uplift. It is through playing games that we learn team work, a characteristic sadly wanting in Chinese life; that we learn to ob- serve rules, as to what is done and not done. It is through playing games that we learn the spirit of give and take and the art of win- ning and losing graciously. We may well emulate our British friends who have rendered famous such expressions as 'playing the game,' 'sportsman, 'not cricket' and who have made fine distinctions between the 'amateur' and the 'professional.'
We as a race are noted for our quality of patience, but persistence is a different thing. Fatience is waiting for Heaven to help us, essentially passive in character; persistence is helping ourselves, a matter demanding exertion. Persist- ence even perhaps bordering on per- tinacity, a little of the bulldog breed' and fighting the hardest when battle would be fighting a losing qualities which would help any nation to stand. on its feet. We and I hope that the love of sport and I hope that the love of sport will continue to grow among oar people
