K.B.G.C. Unexpectedly Lose

BEATEN BY THE K.C.C.

Craigengower's Win in Spey Cup

Regarded as having a good chance of drawing level with the two leaders of the First Division of the Lawn Bowls League and making it a triangular play-off for the championship, the Kowloon Bowling Green Club unexpectedly lost to the Kowloon Cricket Club on Saturday by ten shots.

The P.R.C and Club de Recreio fixture was postponed on account of the Police Aquatic Sports.

A Treat to Watch

The Chinese were not long con- tented with so narrow an advantage and the forwards came down the field in line their passing being a treat to

watch, but Lee Wai-tong headed wide when a goal sccmed ter- tain. A third goal for the Chinese came as the result of Lee Wai-tong following up smartly, Spriers kick- ing the ball on to the inside left, whence it rebounded into the net.

The Services fell away badly from now and the Chinese for- wards, playing delightful foot- ball, did pretty much as they plessed. Fung. King-cheung ob- tained the fourth point with a smart shot, while shortly afterwards Tao Kwai-shing added a fifth after Spriers had made a series of sensational saves out of

goal.

The same player added 2 further point a moment later, after Spriers wing right on the goal line.

Comment on The Game Although not winning in such a decisive manner as the score would; suggest, the Chinese were clearly the better side and thoroughly de- served their success. Chow Yin- yin, the Shanghai goalkeeper did all that was required of him in a cap- able manner, while the backs gave him excellent support.

Lee Check-wa, the Singapore star, was the pick of a useful half back line, but it was in attack that the Chinese showed to best id vantage, the whole forward line working together with the precision of a machine. Suen was at the top of his foren, whilst Fung King- cheong and Lee Wai-tong were also brilliant in their methods of attack. Tao Kwai-shing was the better of two clever outside men.

:

Flashes of Good Play The Service men showed flashes of really good football,. but as a team they failed to get together. Spriers tarnished an excellent first hall display by making some costly mistakes in the latter part of the game. The backs were none too steady under the heavy pressure set up, but Reeves repeatedly saved the situation with lusty clearances.

The half backs worked hard but were for the most part too busy in defensive work to be of much as-1 sistance to the forwards.

Of the front line Stock was by far the most dangerous, but he did not receive a great deal of support from Skiggs who seemed out of his element in the forward line. Ray- son strove hard to get the line go- ing and was responsible for many clever individual efforts, as also was Kernick, but the latter did not eppear at his best, whilst Alexan- der rarely got going in his usual style.

The South China Athletic Asso ciation are to be congratulated on the arrangements made for the match, including the seating, these being carried through without & hitch by a most efficient staff of assistants.
