RELYING ON OTHERS
PEOPLE DOING TOO MUCH OF IT NOW
"The way in which people are re- lying on others and are expecting others to do things for them is be- coming one of the biggest problems of social e sald, Sir Josiah Stamp at the Speech Day of the Commercial Travellers' Schools,
Pinner.
He dismissed the contention that school was the happiest time of anyone's life. "That is absolute rubbish." he said. "All times should be happy."
MOTHER'S PREMONITION WAS TRUE
1
A HORRIBLE CRIME
Paris, July 20. ·. Poor little Jeannine Bigogne, the rietim, was the daughter of respec- table working people living in a furnished room in a small hotel in the Rue Martre, in the Paris indus- trial suburb of Clieby.
Mme.
On Tuesday. evening Bigogne returned home with a pre- sentiment of impending misfortune. She started with fear as she went upstairs to their humble room, for she thought she heard Jeannine calling piteously "Mummie."
Jeannine was not in the room, nor could she be found in the hotel. When her husband returned late from his work they went to the police station and reported Jean- nine's disappearance.
Throughout the night and all the next day the police search produc- ted no result, but at 11 o'clock at night came a dramatic revelation.
Panic-stricken
Sydney Harle presented himself at the local police station and said he ran over the girl when cycling and killed her, adding:
Panic-stricker and not know. ing what I did, I wrapped the body in a towel and, putting it in a suit-case, carried it to the. river and threw it in.
The police were suspicious and decided to search Harle's room. There they found two blankets which had been recently washed, some of the dead child's garments and some bloodstains. Meantime, the news spread that Harle was closeted in his room with the police, and the hotel residents got out of bed and in scanty attire crowded round the
door. When he emerged between two police officials the angry mob fell on him and kicked
and battered him.
Throughout the night he was sub- jected to a "third degree" examina- by police officers, but he stuck to his story.
Another of Sir Josiah's aphorismstion was: "People who have the hardest time are the people who take things easy,"
effects were awaiting sale, and stole MADAME TORCAT-And ons of her various articles, principally plate.
performing roosters.
At 7 o'clock in the morning came enlightenment. A workman ar- rived at the police station with a battered yellow suit-case. He was in a state of considerable agitation and could not speak.
The police opened the valise under the eyes of Harle. Inside was the body of poor little Jeannine Bigogne. She had been strangled, and her body--she was big for her age--had been squeez- ed into the suit-case.
When Barle caught sight of the body of his victim he broke down and under the "third degree" the. truth was wrung out of him.
Harle admitted that he attempted to outrage the child and strangled her when he heard her mother call her name downstairs, because he was afraid Jeannine would call out. His wife and child were on holi- day, and on the day of the crime Harle went home drunk. He was in a state of hysteria to-day and could not be examined.

DUCHESS OF YORK
CHILDHOOD SCENES
REVISITED
Hitchin, July 21. When the Duchess of York open-
ed a new wing of the North Hert- fordshire and South Bedfordshire Hospital here to-day, she was re- visiting one of the scenes of her childhood, for her birthplace-St. Paul's, Walden-is not five miles from Hitchin.
Mias M. Wilkie, of Hitchin, was governess to the Duchess when she was four years old, while later the Duchess and her brother David came to Miss Wilkie's house for lessons.
It was at St. Paul's, moreover, that the Duchess became engaged.
With the words, "I have very |much pleasure in declaring the new wing open," the Duchess pressed an electric button, which broke a seal in the new wing of the hospital.
The Duchess then received purses on behalf of the hospital and decorated four ambulance men, with long-service medals.

DOCTORS WHO SUFFER FROM
URATED MA
INDIGESTION
DOCTORS know that most cases of diges
tive disturbance are due to acidity, and so, when they themselves get an attack of stomach pain, they obtain instant relief by taking 'Bisurated' Magnesia. If you suffer after eating; if food lies like lead on your stomach, causing distress and keeping you awake at night, get a package of 'Bisurated' Magnesia and take a little after meals, or whenever pain is felt. You'll say, with the doctors, that though the treatment is cheap and simple, there's nothing to beat it anywhere, at any price. When buying always look for the oval 'Bismag' trade-mark on the wrapper.
