A slashing attack on extravagant legal costs was made by Lord Justice Serutton in the Appeal Court in dealing with a small slan- der action. He ordered the estimates of costs to be read In court and then commented: "It is outrageous that litigants cannot come to an English court without paying 170 guineas to counsel and 70 guineas to solicitors."
