NAVIGAZIONE LIBERA TRIESTINA

The problem of the reorganisation of the Navigazione Libera Triestina still remains

unsettled It may be recalled that on June 30, 1928, the come pany laid before its shareholders a balance-sheet showing a deficit of shout

24,000,000 live (£260,000). The for- mer directorate was dissolved and the banks which were chiefly interested in the matter requested Professor Bet tanini to make a thorough investiga- tion into the business of the com pany and hand them an exact report of the situation. The banks would then lay this report before the Govern ment, which, in its turn, would decide whether it was desirable to reconstruct and carry on the Navigazione Libera Triestina or leave it to its

fate. Professor Bettanini, according to the Trieste correspondent of "Hansa, has not yet been able to complete his task and the interested parties are making the observation that the longer the doubtful and uncertain situation lasts, the worse the position of the company becomes as the heavy interest on the deficit is accumulating. It has also been impossible, so far, find a new managing director for the company, and this can be readily understood, as no responsible person can be expected to give up a good position in order to accept another in which the eir- cumstances

dubio is,

sre, to day the least,

It is expected, the correspondent adds, that a general meeting will shortly be called at which the share- holders will be presented with

* positive and trustworthy balance sheet showing the real situation of the concern, as well as a new programme of work which, it is hoped, will again restore the company to the high posi tion which it once occupied.
