THE REGIMENT'S ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEETING

KEEN CONTESTS

Attended by ideal weather con- ditions, the annual athletic sports meeting of the 1st Battalion the Queen's Royal Regiment was held at the battalion's camp at Sun Wal, in the New Territories.

Times recorded were not briliant; still, neither was the track. There was a sensational finish in the Officers Handicap, Licut: Kealy and Lieut. Dickinson staging a dead- heat after one or two runners had fallen within eight of victory.

Popular Winner There was a big field for the Sergeants Race-some were last minute runners. Sergeant McCoy, conceded a generous start, avid- ently had determined that his form had not been properly estimated. Consequently, he, proceeded to run away from everybody and came home a

popular winner amonget resounding cheers.

Of course, there was a bareback riding race, and "pillow fighting,” and, to wind up with, a hectic Tug- of-War, which provoked the specta- tors to transports of vocal enthus- laam.

On the purely sporting alde, 'pro- bably the best thing of the day was a beautiful bit of timing by Pte. Saunders...in the 440 yards race, which enabled him to come through and win. The pole jump was also keenly contested, and was watched with great interést,

All the events were run off with true military preciston, and, if a classic expression may be used; dt can be safely said that "a good time was had by all.", -
