A contract for the construction of a third turbo-electric liner of the same type as the California and Virginia has been signed by Mercantile the International Marine Co. The vessel, like her, two predecessors, is to be built by the Newport News Shipbuild EMPRESS OF ARIA ing and Dry Dock Co., and is to be delivered in December, 1929, or January, 1980,
"While these three vessels have been planned especially for the Panama Pacific Line service, operating between New York and San Francisco and Los Angeles, said Mr. P. A. S. Franklin, pre- sident of the International Mer- cantile Marine, according to New York advices, they are also suit- able for any other trade, and will be particularly useful in time of national emergency from the military point of view.
