DEATH OF WELL-KNOWN'
SHANGHAI MAN.

record regret to death early Monday morn- Ing at the General Hospital, of Mr. Charles Miller at the age of 40 years, says the "N. C.. D. Nowa" of Aug. 24. Mr. Miller came to China as a member of the staff of The Central Agency, Ltd. (J. & P. Coats, Ltd.) in the year 1915, and after a short period in Shanghal was transferred to Tien- tsin where he spent a number of years as Manager, returning to Shanghai early in 1924.-
Mr. Miller never розвенней д very robust constitution and latter- ly suffered a good deal from ili health, but all who knew him can testify to the brave manner in which he bore up during very try- ing periods. Although not actively participating in many sports, he nevertheless was always interested in and a keen follower of most games, being a member of the Shanghai and Powhattan Clubs, Shanghai Golf, Cricket and Lawn; Bowls Clubs.
He was well liked and appreciat ed by all with whom he came in contact and a large circle of friends He

"When I came round I was some twenty yards from the boat, lying at the water's edge on the island. I presume I was carried by the current under the whole length of the houseboat and then washed on to the shore.
"A large barge was moored to! the Island. When I loosened the rope at one end the barge swung across the river in the current. I clambered along the barge and dropped off the free end into the water on the other side, where it I had struggled was shallow. half out of the water when again collapsed, and remained half in and half out of the water until rescued at seven o'clock.
Mr. Bullivant is suffering from shock.
