married woman.'
The case for the prosecution, which was conducted by Mr. E. H. Williams of the Secretariat for Chinese Affairs, was that the woman's husband made a report of her disappearance and stated that he had been informed that she was at Kapshekmoi. A district watch- man' went there and found the woman in the defendant's house. They were both reluctant to go to the S.C.A. The defendant at first claimed that the woman was his kit fat wife, but eventually ad- mitted that she was his concubine.
The defendant stated that he had bought the woman for $150 and married her. The marriage was arranged through a go- between, and the money was paid through the go-between, to a inan who, he was informed, was a "trafficker in human beings." He had women and children and offer- ed them, for sale.
The Magistrate convicted and fined the defendant $100, or, in default, two months' jail.
