HOW CAPT. JENSEN ESCAPED.
a
Once again, China coast pirates have succeeded in capturing eteamer and stripping her both of loot and passengers. The latest victim is the China Merchants' "Hsin Wah," (Chinese flag), which was bound, from Shanghai to Hong Kong.
Yesterday, the pirates were twice disturbed at Sam Chau inlet, where they had taken the ship. The first time, a passing steam- launch caused a false alarm but, on the second occasion, a Chinese warship hove in sight and bluejackets were sent in pursuit of the pirates.
At that time, the master, Captain M. R. Jensen, was on shore having been forced to go by the pirates. Fortunately, he escaped; but three of his crew and five passengers are held by the outlaws either for ransom or as hostages.
