On the subject of smuggling, the West River Shipowners Associa- tion of Hong Kong has addressed a petition to HE the Governor, ask ing for the following:
New legislation prohibiting salt to be exported from Hong Kong to the West River ports.

Cargo being shipped through Hong Kong for ports beyond; amounts to a huge total of 41,687 tons, of which amount the British respectable are transporting a quantity of 10,058 tons..
With regard to the above figures, the best return regiatered, for cargo
imported to the colony, by one ves. sel, was shown by the s.s. "Daishu Maru from Kobe, Mike-Messrs. M.D.K.-4,680 tons goal.
