THE "CHESAPEAKE."
The "Chesapeake," the first two 12,000-ton motor tankers order- ed by the Anglo-American Oil Co., was completed and ran trials on. January 16. She is 470 ft. b.p., with a beam of 64 ft. 3 ins, and a depth of 34 ft. 9 ina. The "Chean- peake" was built by Workman, 'Clark and Co. and equip- ped with a Workman, Clark- Sulzer eight-cylinder engine. It is designed to develop 3,500 b.h.p. at 90 r.p.m., and has cylin-i ders 680 mm. bore with piston stroke of 1,200 mm., the speed of the ship being 11% knots. The hull is constructed on the Isherwood system.
Before Mr. R. E. Lindsell at the Central Magistracy yesterday after- noon, further evidence was taken in the case in which the steersman' of a junk is charged with the manslaughter of a little boat girl as the result of a collision between the junk and a fishing boat off Putol Taland, near Stanley. Tha Magistrate gave another adjourn ment until Tuesday afternoon next, and indicated his intention of visiting the two 'craft in the mean- time.
