Lloyd's Register of Shipbuild- ing returns for the quarter end- ing March 31, shows that 1,216,- 000 tons are under construction in Great Britain and Ireland, an increase of 456,000 compared with the quarter ending Decem- ber 31 last year. The tonnage ì upon which work was suspended was only 20,000 as compared with 99.000 for the previous quarter. The present totals are the highest since December, 1924, but are still 673,000 below the average tonnage built during the twelve months before the war.
