These late shawls are entirely hundmade from the very finest and softest of the native wool. So fine is the work that a shawl large enough for an opera wrap. Ican be passed through a 'wed- ding ring. Yet these cobwebby brands are composed of a two- ply thread which is spun with an ordinary spinning-wheel.
Like the Fair Isle knitting, the spinning of this Hine thread is done in many parts of Shetland, but is confined by reputation to one island. The island of Unsti -the most northerly of the Shetland group-is famed for the fine "Unst" yarn
