The servant said he would inquire, and was ordered by his master to tell the padre that he (the officer) had just died. "Dear me!" said the chaplain, and hurried off to make arrangements for the funeral. After a time, as he heard nothing more about the "death," he went back to the bungalow, and was given the same answer as before, "I must see the Sahib," said the padre. "The Sahib gave orders that nobody was to see him," insist ed the servant... "But I've come to bury him!" yelled the chaplain. Whereupon the officer, who could hear all that was going on, lost his temper, jumped from his bed clad only in a vest, and shouted "Not just yet!" With which he pushed the astonished padre out side and bolted the door.
