The copper mines at Cerro de Pasco in Peru are about 1,000ft. deep, though they are at an elevation of 14,000ft..above sea level. The St. John del Rey gold mine in Brazil is the deepest in the world. It is worked to a depth of 6,726ft. Holes have been bored much deeper into the earth than mine workings-have "penetrated. The deepest hole in the earth is one in West Virginia, which was bored 7.579ft. in search of natural gas. France's Prosperity.
France's great prosperity is the subject of a report just issued by the British Department of Overseas Trade. It points out that the brilliant economic revival in France that ensued in the early months of 1922 has as yet suffered no eclipse..
