CHAOYANGFU REPORTED TO HAVE FALLEN INTO HANDS OF MUKDEN. FORCES.

CHEKIANG IN WINNING

VEIN.

Victories Possibly Exaggerated.

The latest news from the North. if the fall of Chaoyangfu, north-west of Peking, is true, shows that Wu Pel-fu and the troops guarding the capital may yet have their hands full to cope with the Mudken attack, if Chang Tso-lini really means business.

Messages from the North indicate that the Powers' intend to keep the trains running between Peking and Chinwanglao, and not give way as they did in the last struggle between Chang Teo-lin and Wu Pei-fu in 1922. Whether the Peking forces will adhere to the terms of the 1900 Treaty is another matter. There is little doubt that there are sufficient troops in Peking to keep the line open, but whether the different governments really intend to force the issue if necessary, is still open to doubi.

The Chekiang and Kiangsi forces have again been in action and the former still appears to hold the advantage.
