Shanghai's amateurs have no sooner "done" a play than they apeedily announce the production of another one.
This is to be "Dear Brutus," and all who have read Barrie's play-or better still seen it, will congratulate Shang- hai on its good fortune. The title may suggest Shakespeare, but the only suspicion of Shakespeare in the play is the quotation,
"The fault, Dear Brutus, is not
in our stars, But in ourselves, that we are

LATEST, "ON LEE" PIRACY STORIES.
FALSE ALARM THEORY.
Late last night, the majority of the passengers of the "On Lee," the vessel reported to have been nearly pirated, were allowed to leave the ship which was still under police supervision. About sixty or so had been taken across to the Central Police Station these comprising those that had travelled without luggage or had not given satisfactory replies, bo questions put by the police. A number of couriers who run be- tween the interior and Hongkong were included.
After waiting all last night, those detained at Central were released whenever friends or rela- tives came forward to confirm their bona fides but up to the time of our first edition going to press, a number were still waiting.
Police officers are unwilling to express an opinion as to whether pirates were actually on board.

But it's high wagen that have been keeping trade going in America when all the clever chaps in Wall Street were prophesying ruin. Talk about inability to govem: even these Labour fellows couldn't make a worke mess of it than the others. Look how Baldwin and his pals have messed it up, smashing the party when nobody in the world wanted an election. Why, these chaps couldn't run a whelk stall successfully if they hadn't got a good man to do it for them: Of course, we shan't get the pick- ings now out of the Singapore Dock, and Cindermeadow won't get any more subsidies for nothing, and we shall lose some of the nice bits that were coming along if those silly fools hadn't queered the pitch; but what we lose on the roundabouts we may get on the swings, and if the cement doesn't go to Singapore it'll go to Shadwell or another of those, Yorkshire places housing or some of the unem ployment schemes.
