that critics,
averages and analyses are no criterion of a cricketer's worth. Not only is a player's value to his team not shown in statistics, but there is. no differentiation between runs made in a race with the clock, on unfavourable pitches and against high class bowling and fielding, and the scores which are piled up when a match has been won, time is not at stake, the wicket is all in favour of the batsman and the A attack, generally, is weak. batsman who places his average before the requirements of his oleven, as interpreted by his skipper's instructions, is not worthy of his place in the team, no matter i his skill. Again, a bowler who only thinks, of his analysis and makes everything else of second-

Second at present is A.A. Rumjahn with 198 compiled in five innings. Shouldering the respon sibilities of skipper is the only reason I can deduce.for his incon- sistent showing so far. He has made 44 against the C.R.C., 110 R.G.A., 10 H.XC.C., 29 Craigen- gower and 5 Kowloon. With the. E. G. Lammert (H.K.) 18. 4.61 exception of the century, all, the Bowker (HK). matches were played away, and in B. D. Evans (6.5).. every case he has opeted his Webster (H.K.) team's innings.
Sayer (C.S.)... Pomfret (N.)... --Next--is Lieut. Comfiander) Gould (N.) Paffard of the Royal Navy with A. et Arculli (L).. 188. The mainstay of the senior A. H. Madar (L), service batting, he has made credit Balbetchet (U.) able scores in all league matches Hargreaves (N.). except the first. He is mentioned Omar (1) ....... as one of those who will be leaving More (H.K.) for Home this week and his place will be hard to fill.
Another LR.C. bat, S. H. Ismail, is fourth with 178, made in seven attempts. Without the benefit of any "not out" scores, he has an average of over 25 although he has never exceeded the 50 mark..
