News dispatches from Corfu Island of Corfu, which has been bombarded by the Italian fleet, under orders from Premier Mussolini, report that Americans were imperilled by the artillery fire. The ex- Kaiser Wilhelm lung maintained this wonderful marble palace Fat Cor and it has lately been turned over to the American Near East Relief, Commission by the Greeks, to care for the Greek and Armenian refugees from Turkey. Shells are supposed to have struck near it.

Cables from Japan indicate that hundreds of Japanese telephone girls, sticking to their posts of duly in the earthquake and fire, in an effort to summon help, lost their lives. Hero is one of the leading telephone exchanges, in Tokio, destroyed, with the death of all the

Imperial Hotel
The Imperial Hotel, a $3,000,000 structure, in Tokio, owned by the Japanese royal family and the rendezvous for tourists, is reported to have been destroyed. The Imperial Hotel was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, of Chicago, architect, and Paul Mueller, construction engineer and was probably the first. building ever constructed on a crust of earth In such a manner it was hoped it could withstand an earth- quake. Two thousand concrete piles were sunk to 200 to 300 feet below the surface for its foundation.
