STEINWAY & SONS HELPED. Dr. Stoehr says that he is greatly, indelited to Steinway and Son for the invaluable assistance that this finn gave him in developing his invention. Without this help it would have been impossible to produce the device so quickly-- perhaps it could never have been made-says Dr. Stoehr. Paul H. Schmidt, assistant to the president, Frederick T. Steinway, showed Di. Stocher many courtesies, as did also Theodore Cassebeer, a director in the firm and also general factory manager.
Under his direction, H. P. John- ston, Steinway expert on models, was able to devote a great deal of time personally to perfecting Dr. Stocht's invention. For fully one entire year skilled employees in the Steinway factory worked pain- stakingly upon converting the inventor's ideas as illustrated by blueprint drawings into a workable device that would record musical improvisations. Finally the prac tical device was completed and ready for exhibition.

DRUG TRAFFIC SENTENCES.
A charge of being unlawfully in the possession of cocaine was made against Monty Cohen, 45. tailor, and Margaret Macdonald, 42, talloress, at the Old Bailey. They pleaded guilty, and Cohen was sentenced to four years', penal servitude and Macdonald, 10 nine months in the second division.
It was stated that two police officers went to a house occupied by Macdonald in the Regent's Park neighbourhood. They saw Cohen in bed. Macdonald was sitting on a chair with a packet of. powder in her hand. It was found to be cocaine, Cohen said: The stuff belongs to me." Macdonald said: I may take it occasionally, but I would never sell the stuff. It is too horrible,"
Detective Owen said that this year he had cautioned Cohen hot; to have anything to do with cocaine. Cohen then said he had made as much as £200 a week out of it, but had given it up.
Cohen denied this, and said he had had to pawn things in order to live.
He used the cocaine to relieve himself of pain.
A police officer said that Cohen sent people out with the stuff and they took the risk while he took the profit.
For Macdonald, it was stated that at the time of the police visit
she was giving Cohen his medicine at his request. She did not know
it was cocaïne.
