LADY'S DEATH.
CONFERENCE.
BODY FOUND IN HARBOUR. SIR ROBERT HO
CAUSE OF HER DEATH STILL A MYSTERY.
Having learned this morning that Miss. E. A. Card, confidential secretary employed by Messrs. But- terfield & Swire, had disappeared during last week's severe typhoon weather, the European community will be further shocked to learn that she is dead, her body having been discovered near the P. & O. pier by an Indian constable. Miss Card had been absent from her room since half past eleven on Friday night.
Miss Card, who is an English Indy, came from Vesicouver about two years ago to join Messrs, Batterfield and Swire. She was highly respected by her employers and was very popular at the "Kings- clere."

PRESIDENT LI YUAN-HUNG
APPROVES.
Sir Robert Ho Tung, who has been actively endeavouring · to arrange a round-table conference of China's leaders with a view to securing unity, sends the following letter to the China Mail,
I
Sir-I am communicating the fact to you, for publication if you think fit, that President Li Yuan- hung has been pleased to convey to me an expression of his approve al of the round table Conference, recently suggested, of the princip al leaders in China. President L has already in his mind's eye the name of at least one delegate who will be appointed his nominee to the Conference.
I am, Yours faithfully,
R. HO TUNG.
Sir Robert Ho Tung is confident

She is said to have remarked to the night watch- man that she was going out for a walk, Immediately her prolonged absence was noticed inquiries were set afoot. Search parties were or- ganised by "Kingsclere" residents and Messrs. Butterfield and Swire. These scoured the island upto a late hour last night. A report was laid with the police, but it was not until this morning that the mystery was partially cleared up by the finding of her body in the harbour.
Miss Card was apparently in good health at the time of her leav- ing the hotel. It was first supposed. that she had met with an accident but even the finding of her body has not solved the cause of her death.

Asked if it was possible that Miss Card-according to one theory -coutd have fallen into

However, this might also be attributed to con- tinual bumping against the sup- ports of the pier while in the rough sea.
