Afterwards Mr. Lowe proposed a sure of thanks to Mrs. Smyth and referred to the great amount of work that the Commodore and Mrs. Smyth Lad done for the Club during the time they had been connected with it. On behalf of the Club be presented to Mr Smyth a package, the contents of which I will not divulge," and to the Commodore he gave a handsome cabinet which held decanters and a *lar: task.

B. is a bidding game in the rules of which, to act as a deterrent to overbidding of a player's hand, prevision is made for the doubling of the stakes on that hard at the option of the bidder's opponents. Properly speaking then, the double is not a bid at all.
