A liar, and a-scoundrel" «These! epithets were used by Magistrate Lindell yesterday' afteroots to a portly Chinese who told a store of having been robbed on Caine Road on the night of June 23, when he alleged that he was attacked by four armed men and relieved of a gold, watch and a feather fan.
One of the four alleged robbers charged yesterday with robbery with violence, indignantly dealed the
offence.
The complainant, who described himself as a silic merchant, told a curious aby in the witness box. He said he turned out of Caine Road at 10.30 p.m. on June 28 "into #-
street which he did not know,
but there were chairs on either side of it" (it was said afterwards by a constable to be Peel Street) Two men were coming up the hill; each drew out a dagger and pointed it at him. He shouted out "matching."
