FACTS ABOUT THE MOST MALIGNANT DISHANE.
Attention has been given of late at home to the Registrar-General's re- turns showing an increase in the number of cases of cancer recorded. The following notes by a well-known expert discusses these figures
From time to time disturbing and
even, alarming statements as to a great increase in the incidence of cancer appear in the Press For many reasons it is extremely import ant that there should be nothing like a public panic excited by careless and exaggerated statements on a disease so prevalent, so grave, and so little understood as cancer.
Such alarm is well known to cause great and needless anxiety to many people who present no objective signs of the disease, and from a fear lest the disease may be infections it some times leads to the cruel neglect of persons who are suffering grievously from cancer.
CANCER AMONG THE AGEU As regards the alleged "great, increase in cancer, it is very im portant to remember that the mere statement of the Registrar General's figures is not conclusive evidence on the point. These figures need to be, corrected in at least three particulars. Allowance has to be made ***
