LONDON, February 3. Twenty police ambushed in two lorries at Ross Carrberry, Cork, fought and repulsed 500 assailants, killing six and wounding several, also capturing many bombs and rifes and much ammunition. The police suffered no casualties. The attack was made from the grounds of the house of a magistrate who was imprisoned in the building with his family and Dean of Ross the right prior to the attack.

H. M. Petroleum Department's report on drilling operations in 1920 shews that prospecting wells in Derbyshire, North Staffordshire, and Scotland have made steady progress. Most of the wells have now reached a great depth. The total feet drilled was 7,670. Six wells reached a depthy: Grace Ho Teng, history, gram- of 3,000 feet or over, the deepest being at Ironville in Derbyshire where 4,006 was reached. The Hardstoft well continued to produce ou at the rate of a ton a day. In order to relieve tankage 500 tons of oil in storage at Hardstoft were sold to the Anglo-American Oil Co., at £22 10s. per too,! of which 325 tons were delivered.
