FREIGHT ADVANCES IN. JAPAN.
WATERFRONT CONGESTION AT YOKOHAMA,
Tokyo, March 30.-The shipping market is generally unchanged. The coasting and the nearsea markets continue comparatively firm while the ocean market is as weak as ever... There has been some advance in freight rates between Wakamatsu and Yokohama, the rate on coal standing at Yen 460 per ton, a raise of about 20 sen compared with a week ago. This advance is not due! to any increase in movements of cargo but, to the temporary shortage of lighters and longshoremen Yokohama.
at
The waterfront confusion at Yokohama prolongs the stay of ships there, and to reduce the consequent loss the freight rates have been pro- portionately raised.
