JEWEL THIEVES.
At the Magistracy this morning, a Chinese woman and two men, were (convicted of conspiring to defraud a Chinese girl of $1,000 worth of jewellery.
His Worship convicted all three defendants and sentenced the woman to three months hard. labour, and the two men to six months' hard labour each.
The complainant was allowed to have all her jewellery on condition. that she paid fair compensation to the pawnbroker. AR unpawned articles are returned to her.
His Worship further said that if within 7 days from now, notice of appeal for reduction of sentence is giver, he was prepared to make re commendation to H. E. the Governor for the sentences to be reduced-by one third.
