Rock (5) Stonecutters (5), finishing at the Club Line. Six yachts turned out, butup to the time of the actual start there was barely enough windto manœuvre. With the starting gun however, a squall came away from the North, and a very good start was made, Azuma, and Norseman, closehauled, got well clear of the shipping, and kept the wind to Datum Rock and Chung Hue. Westwind, Mist, Brynhilde, and Helen got into a pitch of calm of Belchers, and were delayed half an hour, after which a struny breeze from the North carried them on to Dalum Rock, Brynhilde dropping out on the way as the freshening breeze was too much for her.
The rounding of Pillar Rock was a difficult matter for everyone, and caused much delay, the wind here being light and variable, with a strong ebb tide running out of Rambler Channel. Helen gave up here, being unable to round the mark. Times are given below.
