In this connection it is reported that the ruler of a native state has placed an order with a Bombay firm of builders for a motor bouse boat of no less than 125ft. in length. She will probably be fitted with two 70-b.b.p. Thornycroft petrol motors driving twin-screws through Thorny- croft reverse gears.
The Lord Mayor, presiding at the annual meeting of the City of Lon- don Branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution held recently, said that the society since it was founded had been instrumental in saving 57,000 lives; that during the

It is reported that the contract price for the twenty 1,100 b.b.p. four cycle Werkspoor Diesel engines to be built by the Scandia Pacific Oil Engine Company for ten new 5,000 ton twin-screw motor ships for the US. Emergency Fleet is in the region of £500,000 or about £25 per b.b.p. Before the war: Werkspoor engines could be obtained in Amsterdam at between £8. and £9 per b.h.p."
The Union Cas Engine Co., of Oak- Jand, California, who specialise- in high powered Installations consum- ing light fuel, have completed a 300 b.bp. paraffin electric-ignition engine to be fitted in a 185ft. cargo carrier trading in the Gulf of Orleans. "The engine which, by the way, is a four- cylinder model, is by no means the largest of its type built in America.
