VOLUNTEERS IN CAMP,

A Busy Time at Hang Han. The Hangkeng Volunteer Corps went into camp at Hang Hau on Friday for their annual training, and the various urite are doing excellent work under

their officers and attached instructors from the Regular Army.

The sise chosen for this year's camp is as near ideal as can be. Within easy distance of Hongkeng by water, ise situs- tion at the head of Junk Bay, close to Hang Hau village, is especially suitable for military operations from many points of view. The high hills which form the background of the gently-rising ground upon which the tents are laid out afforde abelter from the prevading winds; mountain stream provides a safe water supply: and the ground at the back of the camp over the hills, which have good paths, gives plenty of scope for the carry- ing out of tactical exercises in typical Hongkong country, -.

In many ways, and especially on scount of its situation and the conveni: cat manner In.. which it has been laið

out by Sergt. Major Higby and his per manent staff, the camp marks a great improvement upon its predecessITA.

Over 120 men went out by launch en Friday afternoca, and the nature and amount of work done by the various waits since then indicates thing we inserto tica is to be of a very practical nature. Reveille sounded at 6.15 a.m, on Satur. day, and soon after eight o'clock the various units went out for individual instruction and

practice under their instructors and company commanders. The maxim gun companies pit in some useful work in the valley just behind the camp, the companies were engaged in gull on the hills, while the Engineers were employed in various useful work about the camp, including the building if a stone extension to the camp pier, the digging af drainage trenches, and a target base for the In the afternoon all units took part in field
