LORD KNOLLYS.

Retirement of the King's Private Secretary.

-

As telegraphed by Houter recoctly, Lord Knolly's le retiring from the offcu of private secretary to King George.

The retirement will probably take place before the opening of the new session of Parliament on March 10.

During the past 18 months there have beca persistent rumours that Lord Kollys

would retire,

"He is one of the veterans of the Royal Household, and has been during his 45 years' service the trusted councilier and servant of three Sovereigns.

In 1858 he was appointed Gentleman Usher to Queen Victoris, and in 1870 ho became Private Secretary to the iste King Edward, who was then Prince of Wales.

Had he been free, to consult his own Wishes Lord Knollys would have retired upon King Edward's death, but it is generally understood at one of the lust requests of this monarch was that he should continue to sorve King George.

Ho-is 75 years of age, and perhaps so maz livrig has accountered care persis. tent inquiress, both public and private, than Lord Kuolys. He answered them
