MANAGER Hongkong, October 2, 1903-
As soon as the special xpress brought me to this Imperial city the first thought that was uppermost in my mind was the crowda of passengers from various parts of the globe treading on the same platform where I was. Deafening chears, happy oxclamations, gleaming faces struck me as something unique. In my living memory I have never heard, much less read, any, thing of a similar kind. From the far-off America, Australia, "From India, from China, from Japan-all shook hands to. gether in this city. To-day, at this moment, I think there are more persons in London than two or three of the greatest cities of the world. What is there in London to attract so many? What is that charm which has hypnotised millions?
A GLORIOUS MONUMENT. These are the two questions that con- frent mo at the outset. It is not merely political connections; it is not merely the influenci of Great Britain in the world; it is not merely the idle curiosity of persons that have brought dowu streams of human heings, but it is adteething more, something erhier, and something nobler. It is the Irresistible charm, it is the tie of nature's attraction that she tied all of us round to thia city. There are many cities in the world huge and grand, but there is some counterneting side which disturbs with the grandeur of those places. But London, gifted by nature, stands as the glorious monument of perfection.
The special left me at the Charing Cross Station musing and soliloquising as to the various things I saw around me. With
LADIES AFTERNOON TARD ROOMS, curious face, with interested leois, I slowly walked the platform, and at last was | brought co to face with what I think to be one of busiest streets of the world.
Here, to m wonder, I found numerous sources of conveyances plying along. The tax rolled on, the 'bas was' bussing along, and the victorias were runcing up and down with millions of passengers. The tram arrangements, which are very accom- modative and convenient, seem to be the most perfect. Being used to the same trams, built in the same fashion, and in the same model, yet Indian tramcars Isek the conveyance which the Lordon trams

Another striking feature of this city is 36 the way in which hotels and restaurants in any other are managel. In Fadin, or

The travellers are very well looked after. So much so tant A man feels entirely at home at an excrp- tionally low price. With the present congestion one could have naturally ex- pected a comparative riss in hotel charges. This is tot se, but, on the other baud, the charges seem to be the cheapest possible.
