to the Bandians No. 1 Comedy Company title of associate in arta - last night. I was case of renewing.

Nama acquaintances to a large extent, for preti-Tan-Kuren, J. B. cally, every member of the talented com-Wan Shuk Ching bination had previously been seen at the Theatre Royal. That the good impressions previously formed of the capabilities of the performers were again conßrmed on this opening night goes without saying. There was a large gathering of patrons, and those showed their delight with the evening's entertainment in no uncertain manner.

It is charmeforistic of the Bandmann management that opportunity should be provided for those whose lot is cast in the Far East to be able to see some of the latest London productions. Sach an ona was the amusing little three-act comedy *pressated "last night. **Mr Proody and the Counthes" is, indeed, still ruuning at the Criterion Thostre, London, and no, "after all, thanks to Mr Mauriçe · Band- mano, we are not at all behind the timso out here in this far-off corner of tho Empire. The play is written by E. C. Carton, and in its main theme does not diverge from the decal conventionalities of Comedy. In order to continue in the good books of his dictatorial business part- ner (Mr Bourisall), Mr. Freody, a quiet young bachelor, consents to take charge of a giddy Countess while the first-named is abeunt on urgent domestic concerns which have suddenly called him away, When it is stated that-Mr Proody possesses but the most limited accomodation in his house, that he has just previously botrothed himseil to a young indy whose views on social life are hardly those of the Countess's, that Eis only man servant is of the prying, interfering order, and that the relatives of the Countess, including hor husband bimsuit, do not cling to orthodox "opinions.cn matters of marital relationship, it will be readily conceived that the play gives scope for plenty of amusement and fun. Of course all is smoothed out in the end, though one was rather surprised that a woman of so much independenco as the Countess had shown horself to possess should have so indiferently regarded hor shabby treatment by Mr Bounesil and so quietly acquiesced in resuming ordinary relations with her reckless husband. Ä departure from such conventionality at tha conslusion of the play would have been evor so much more effective.

Of the perforcars thoumalves nothing but praise can be writion. "There was not a weak spot in the whole casto. On Mr Freedy, Mr E. Spencer Geach, as well- likod by

Bongkong audiences, the bulk of the work fell. Ee wis on the stage throughout. and

Al- W:3 ways frest and full of fo. His interpretation of the well meaning bat perplexed young man was most happy. Mas Lillias Dandas, a charming Indy, took the part of the Countess and invested it with just chat touch-of-vivacity which required. In the finer points of the art she was always seen at her bost, while ber work in the concluding conas of the play showed that her study of character has not "been without good results. Two other characters stood out prominently-they were Bilzen (Mr Proody's servant), and Mr Bounsall. In the former Mr Harry Neville was a great success, while to merely state that the other part was in the heads of Mr Henry Dallas is tautamqunt tử asserting that it could not be better interprotod. The minor characters were also well taken, Mx Charles Vano, Mir -Douglas · Vigors and-Mr-Gordon-Melrod Juka o tal aristocratic trio: Brisa

Harcourt being charming as the lady's maid; and Mine Lucy Beaumont, Misa Helen Russel. Mr Alex Alves, and Mir Edward Granby also doing well in their rospective parts.

To-night there should be crowded house, for **Raffles" is to be staged.

A PROBATE MOTION.

www

At the Supreme Court this morning, before the Acting Chief Justice (the Mr W. Bees Davies.) sitting in Hon. probate jurisdiction, Mr Eldon Potter mentioned the motion which had previous- -17 besu before the Court for the revocation of the letters of administration of the estato of Ip Chuk Kai, which had been granted to one Ip Iu Kwon. The case was adjourned some low days ago in order that a further affidavit should be filed. That had now been done,

His Lordship said he had read the affidavit which he had ordersa to be filed so as to wcw that Ip In Kwon was aware that the application was being made. The former affidavit had been applied as fully as it could be under the circumstances, and The should therefore grant the application. Mr Potter, dealing with the question of costa, said he thought that in a caso like this in which the defaulting administrator had an interest in the property the costs should - come out of thas particular portion of the property in which he was interested. It was a serious matter, and he thought that the man ought to be made to pay the penalty.

His Lordship made an order that the -costa-should-come out-of-the estate, and gave leave for My Potter to apply in chambers that they should be chargeable to the portion of the property in which Ip la Kwon had a personal interest.
