LONDON, January 3. Oficial publication of the Straits Opium Report has been sanctioned.
The report finds that excessive indulgence in the habit is only in isolated cases, and that there has been to increase either in excessive or moderate use of the drug. Neither Las there been any increase of avila.
The report recommends Government control by monopoly, and suggests certain regulations regarding women and children.

The point to which I would desire to dirant the attention of your readers, how- ever, in the manner in which these animals are destroyed.
After luucheon to-day I met a serrant with a rat just captured. Lasked how it was to bo killed and he informed me that the custom was to put the rat into boiling
