Strange Scenes in Olta.
All the boys, 350 in number, of the
Sekijs Elementary School in Oita district
in the prefecture of the sims rame, ceased to attend school on the 12th-instaut, saye the "Japan Chronicle." They declared (though it would be interesting to know who told them) ihat the new Principal mf-the school; Me ase Makishiro, bad been confected with the business of licensed house at Fnsan, Korea, and was a man of low character, and tie: it was a disgrace for the sclined to leave such a man as the Principal. The Mayor of the village inservoued, and it would scem that the students allegations bave saur foundation, extraordinary as it is that a man of such character could possib- ty have gained the appointment of charl- According to the report the Principal has been stopped from attending the school, and the boys have come back. 1 is believed that the matter will be settled by the disuisent of the Principal, and it is to be hoped that the fullest ex- jatation will be ando public.
