The Niagara Falls Question.
Ottawa, April 6,
Canade so far has no knowledge of any disagrearient with the United States re- garding the Niagara Falls. This question was referred to the International Waters Commission by the United States and Canada. The report of the commission respecting the necessity for the precorva tion of the scenic beauty of the Falls and the limiting of water power concessions was unanimous. The Canadian Govero- 637ment approved it, and laid it before Mr. Bry when he was here. Farticulars of the allotraent of water power, on both sides of the Falls lava sirendy been given. This correspondence was understood at the time to be satisfactory to the United States. The only dissenting parties were the Ontario provincial Government, who objected to iny treaty that would restrict the use of water power for manufacturing, purposes. However, the feeling of Canada is that the scenic beauty of the Falls should be pre- served; and Mr Roosevelt is also understood to be emphatic on that point. Another matter settled by the commission was the fisheries boundary waters, the terms of the treaty boing drawn up as already stated.
