THE CHINKIANG LANDSLIP.
A somewhat serious landslip occurred in" Chinking on January 18, at 3.30 p.m. on Maskrs Butterfield and Swire's Bunding, says the "N. C. Daily News." It is stated tint the land round this viciulty and in other places has been in a dangerous stake For some time. On Saturday a piece of land 250 ft. in length dropped into the river so unexpectedly, that it carried with it thirty Chinoso, and they were all drowned.
A huge pontoon was washed away from its mooringe by the waves vbích cunto in after the landslip, and several hosts that were passing at the time of the accident, had a narrow escape.
-It is feared by many that a more serious | landslip may take place in the wear future. There are húndclips almost daily in Chin- king on the opposite side of the river.
It will be rouembered, that not any your age, a disastrous landslip took place in Chinking when Ching Chong's premises, and two streets, with same three hundred Chineeo all went into the river, and ne traco could be found of them. When the depth of the slip was ocasored afterwards, it was found to be eighty fathoms.
