The valvos of one the compartments had been opened in the morning to feat the sinking and recovering capabilities of the Dook. The engineers. and all engaged in comection with the experiment then went on shore to breakfast, and while they were enjoying their siesta in the heat of the day a mossnge WAS brought to them that the dock was sinking. The idea was pooh-poobed for some time, such s catastrophe being considered outside the range of possibility.
