The rumour, mentioned by Mr Keswick, that the report of the Commission on the sanitary state of the native parts of the Colony was of so frightful a nature that it was thought desirable by the Admini- stration not to order ita publication, is no news to the bulk of the foreign residents on the Island. It is certain. that such a report was prepared, and for some reason or other never published, while the results of the examinations of native.houses quoted by Mr Kaswick shows that, if the Report of the Com. mission was an honest one, it must have been of the frightful nature indicated. Mr Keswick did not quote the whole of the instances of abominable sanitary arrangements he had detailed in the document before him, and as we were
