MINUTES OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE QUARANTINE

COMMISSION WHICH SAT AT THE CHIEF JUSTICE'S

CHAMBERS, SUPREME COURT.

First Meeting; 29th December, 1891.

Present:-All Members.

The Chairman addressed the Commission on the subject of quarantine and the applicability of the present quarantine regulations to the peculiar conditions of the port of Victoria and the Colony as a whole, and suggested that the Commission should agree to the course of procedure which should be adopted in carrying out the duties which His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government had placed upon them.

After some discussion it was agreed;.

1. That the Principal Medical Officers of the naval and military services and some of the Medical Gentlemen practising in the Colony be invited to favour the Commission with their views on quarantine and on the present quarantine regulations.

2. That the Resident Engineer of the water and drainage department be invited to favour the Commission with his opinion as to the water supply, and the main and house drainage of Victoria and the probable date on which the works now being carried out in connection there- with are likely to be completed.

3. That the Secretary try and obtain copies of such quarantine regulations as exist in the ports of China, Japan, Manila, Saigon and Singapore. 4. That as far as practicable the views of ship owners and shipping agents in the Colony, as regards quarantine and the present quarantine regulations, be ascertained.

5. That the services of a short-hand writer be obtained.

The Commission then adjourned.

A. Since September 23rd, 1889.

Q.-Have you had any experience of the quarantine regulations of this port ?

A.-Not until the last few days.

Q.--Within the last few days the troopship Orontes has come in ?

A.-Yes.
