To reduce banks' credit risks, the HKMA lowers by 10 percentage points the maximum loan-to-value ratio allowed for borrowers with pre-existing property mortgages. The loan amount permitted for homes of under HK$10 million is cut to 50 per cent of their value, and to 40 per cent for homes exceeding HK$10 million and for corporate buyers.
