The Track Cycling World Championships of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is held for the first time in Hong Kong, the second Asian host city since the event began. in 1893. Ms Sarah Lee wins a bronze in elite women's sprint.
Hong Kong welcomes the birth of its first golden snub-nosed monkey, Lokie, son of Qi Qi and Le Le, which came from Chengdu Zoo in 2015 and 2012 respectively. Golden snub-nosed monkeys are listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University opens its University Research Facility in 3D Printing, the largest 3D-printing research centre locally.
