An exemption provided for Hong Kong permanent residents under the new residential stamp duty regime is tightened, following an increased number of purchases involving multiple residential properties under a single instrument. A permanent resident who does not own any other residential property in Hong Kong at the time of purchase and buys more than one residential property under a single instrument is no longer exempted from the stamp duty rate of 15 per cent.
