Airport
Construction of the Airfield Traffic Control and meteorological facilities for the second runway were completed for operation in August.
Medical and Health
Major projects completed include the new Operating Theatre and Rehabilitation Blocks at Queen Elizabeth Hospital; the Radiotherapy Department Extension Block and the Specialist Out-patient Clinic at Queen Mary Hospital; the Centre of Nephrology and Urology and the Specialist Out-patient Clinic at Princess Margaret Hospital; the Central Kowloon Child Assessment Centre and Skills Centre; the Kowloon Hospital Rehabilitation Building; the Castle Peak Hospital Out-patient Clinic and Administration Block; the Kowloon Bay Polyclinic and Nursing Home; the Hong Kong Eye Hospital Expansion and the Butterfly Beach Laundry.
Major projects under construction include the Caritas Medical Centre Redevelopment; the Lai King Hospital; the Kowloon Hospital Redevelopment Phase I, the Tuen Mun Hospital Polyclinic; the Castle Peak Hospital Redevelopment Phase II, the Trauma Centre at Prince of Wales Hospital, the Fanling Primary Health Care Centre; the Public Health Laboratory Centre; and the Hospital Improvement Programme Phases III and IV.
Recreation and Culture
Major Provisional Urban Council projects completed in 1999 include the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence; Ho Man Tin Park and Ho Man Tin Leisure Centre; Redevelopment of Sai Ying Pun Market; Yee On Street Market and Roof Garden; Sam Ka Tsuen Complex; Shun Lee Tsuen Recreation Ground, and provision of air- conditioning to five indoor games halls.
Other major projects being constructed include the Hong Kong Central Library; Lai Chi Kok Park Stage III; Improvement to So Kon Po Recreation Ground; and Sheung Lok Street Garden.
Major Provisional Regional Council projects completed during the year include the Swimming Pool Complex at Shing Mun Valley, Tsuen Wan; Ma On Shan Sports Ground; Ma On Shan Park in Area 100; District Open Spaces in Area 8, Tuen Mun; Area 35, Tsuen Wan and Area 40, Tseung Kwan O; Open Spaces in Area 10 and 21, Tin Shui Wai; Provisional Regional Council Tsing Yi Complex; New Peng Chau Market; Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Sha Tin; Kwai Tsing Theatre and Yuen Long Theatre.
Construction works started on the Sai Kung Swimming Pool Complex Phase II; Swimming Pool Complex, Library, Indoor Recreation Centre and District Open Space in Area 24, Tseung Kwan O; Redevelopment of Sai Kung Tang Shiu Kin Sports Ground; Improvements to Castle Peak Beach; Provisional Regional Council Tai Po Complex and improvement works to existing public toilets (Phase II) and markets.

Different styles of landscape were provided, ranging from traditional Chinese gardens in the parks currently under construction at Hong Ning Road Park Phase II and Lai Chi Kok Park, to a wide variety of specific themes, drawing on the history or setting
